Grief, love, and somatic practice...
The Echo of Love in the Body
There are people who shape the way we move through life so deeply that even after they’re gone, they remain woven into us. Not just in memory, but in the body.
Grief doesn’t live in the mind alone. It shows up in the chest, the breath, the shoulders, the quiet moments when something familiar stirs. A song, a smell, a passing thought and suddenly, they’re right there again.
Speaking their name. Remembering out loud. Feeling it fully.
This isn’t holding on in an unhealthy way, it’s honoring a connection that still exists, just in a different form.
Somatic Movement as a Way Through
In yoga, especially somatic-based practices, we don’t try to bypass emotion, we create space for it.
Instead of pushing grief away, we can:
- Soften the body where it tightens
- Notice where breath gets shallow
- Move gently with sensation instead of resisting it
Simple practices like placing a hand on your heart in stillness, or slowly rolling the shoulders, can become a conversation between you and what you’re carrying.
Keeping Love Alive Through Presence
Love doesn’t disappear. It changes shape. When you allow yourself to feel, to speak, to remember you’re not reopening wounds. You’re continuing a relationship that mattered.
On the mat, this can look like:
- Letting emotion rise without labeling it
- Moving in a way that feels intuitive rather than structured
- Allowing stillness to hold you instead of rushing through it
Healing isn’t about forgetting. It’s about learning how to carry love forward with softness, with breath, with presence.
